Our Ship Came In!

Before I forget, there is a Picasa photo album that accompanies this blog (or if you like pictures more than words, replaces this blog). It can be found here:

Well, today our ship came in. It was a great day to spend at the beach, and certainly a unique one. The unloading operation was unbelievably entertaining. The ship is completely self sufficient and starts by unloading two tug boats and barges. They then put a couple of forklifts onto the barges and head for the 'beach'. Next the send an office and generator to shore (seriously). The office is where all the locals come to sign for their new goodies. The most notable 'presents' were a shiny new yellow truck for the Nav Canada guys and a very shiny aluminum boat that was claimed within minutes of hitting the shore. Of course, all that does not not shine is not gold (to mangle an old saying) and the piéce de rèsistance was a shiny new AMISR (except that it wasn't shiny).

The entire operation was obviously well orchestrated and went off without a hitch. When a barge reached shore a forklift would move to large ramps into place (and in some cases use one of the ramps to pull the barge in closer). Then one forklift would unload the contents of the barge onto the beach and two others would stack them in what I can only assume was some sort of pattern as it all looked very random to me.

I think I will let the photos speak for themselves, mostly because I am in serious danger of falling asleep on my keyboard (and I drool like a monkey, so that would be bad).
